about
this song has a unique backstory...
the music
1983, I was living in the old house on 6th with Timothy Alan Fox, fooling around with the piano ( yes, I wrote this music on piano, tho I'm no pianist ) and I came up with this chord progression - it's a blues, but unlike a traditional blues that has 3 chords, sometimes 5, this song has 31 - that's right, 31 distinct chordal variations ( major, minor, 7th, minor 7th, 7/9, 7b9 ) - eyes glazing over yet ?🥴
the lyrics
I didn't write these words - they were given to me by a woman I worked with at the 306 Bomb Group Restaurant at Sarasota-Bradenton airport - her name was Angie, can't remember her last name - at the time I was oblivious, but later I realized she had written these words to me...
lyrics
Baby, I'm goin' crazy
You got me spinnin' round and round
I’m going in circles, I keep coming up empty
And takin the long way home
Baby, you drive me crazy
Tonight you're mine, but tomorrow, where ya gonna be?
If you'd just stay here beside me
You'd see how good we could be
What are we doing here, drivin' each other crazy
Can't wait for you to fall so I can catch up to you
And hold you in my arms forever
Darlin', I'm crazy 'bout you
Baby, is it just crazy
To dream of tomorrow after just a single day
I might be dreamin', but maybe
I can convince you to stay, yeah
I might be crazy for the things I do
But, darlin', I'm crazy 'bout you
Ooh yeah
